Dr Aderotimi Adelola, the Chairman, Ondo State Agency for the Control of HIV and AIDS, says the government will train more health workers on HIV counseling and testing (HCT).
Adelola, who is also the Secretary to the State Government, said this on Tuesday in Akure at a workshop to train 23 additional HCT service providers to cover 23 wards in the state.
He said that 58 wards out of 203 wards in the state were already covered by HIV and AIDS counseling providers, adding that the government would not relent in the training until all the wards were covered.
He said that workers from comprehensive and basic health care centres in the state were selected for the training.
“This training will continue on regular basis until the target of the state government is achieved,’’ Adelola said.
The chairman said that HCT service providers in the state were inadequate and not evenly distributed at the community level.
Adelola, who reiterated the commitment of the government to curtail the spread of HIV/AIDS, said the services of HCT service providers were needed to curtail the spread of the dreaded disease. (NAN)
