The Ondo State Board of Internal Revenue has impounded 250 vehicles due to the failure of the owners to register and obtain the number plates and failure to renew the vehicles’ licences.
The Director of Road Tax of the board, Mr Afolabi Daniyan, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Akure that the vehicles would not be released until they were duly registered.
Daniyan said, “the board will continue to search for unregistered vehicles until every motorist complies. Motorists ought not to wait until they are forced to do the right thing.”
He said that there was the need for all road users to make their contribution to the development of the state by paying their taxes regularly.
“The present administration has spent much money on construction of dual carriage ways and on the maintenance of roads across the state. So it has to improve its internally generated revenue.”
The director also appealed to all indigenes of the state to register and renew their vehicle licences in their state of origin.
He said that their habit of going to Lagos, Abuja and other states to register their vehicles signified that they chose to develop other states at the expense of theirs.
“Several announcements have been made on radio and television to create awareness for the road users before embarking on the general checking that led to the seizures of vehicle.” he said. (NAN)
