The Ondo State House of Assembly on Tuesday commended the state government on its forestry regeneration efforts.
The Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Joseph Aladetimehin, made the commendation in Igbara-Oke, Ondo State during an oversight visit to a dam site axis of Akure Forest Reserve.
The chairman said the house would collaborate with the ministry to regenerate forest reserves in parts of the state.
“We are equally willing to partner with you on how you can improve on your internal revenue generation,’’ Aladetimehin said.
He gave the assurance that the House would support the ministry to fight forest encroachment through the enforcement of the state laws.
The Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Lasisi Oluboyo, said the ministry had pursued forest regeneration.
“This administration has really invested in forestry. We are determined to do much next year to boost our revenue for various economic advantages.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government had planted 20 hectares with teak trees, among other indigenous trees, to boost forestry. (NAN)
