One person has been confirmed dead and three others rescued following the collapse of a two-storey building under construction in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State, with several others feared trapped beneath the rubble.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said search and rescue operations were ongoing at the scene as emergency responders worked to locate possible survivors.

The agency confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday, October 23, 2026, by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

According to LASEMA, the building collapsed in the early hours of Friday at Akinola Street, near Fadeyi Bus Stop, along Ikorodu Road.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency received a distress call at 12:10 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of its Cobra Response Team from its Onipanu base.

“The team arrived at the scene two minutes later and discovered that the building had collapsed, with construction workers suspected to be trapped beneath the debris,” he said.

He added that search and rescue operations commenced immediately, with emergency personnel working to locate and evacuate possible survivors.

The agency’s permanent secretary disclosed that rescuers heard groaning sounds beneath the rubble, raising hopes that more people could be found alive.

An excavator was deployed to clear the debris and provide access to areas where victims were believed to be trapped.

LASEMA said three adult males were rescued and given emergency medical attention by its paramedics and personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) before being taken to a hospital for further treatment.

However, one person was recovered dead from the collapsed building.

Other agencies involved in the rescue operation include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS and the Nigeria Police Force. Their personnel are working to secure the area and facilitate rescue efforts.

The cause of the collapse had yet to be determined as of the time of filing this report. Relevant regulatory authorities are expected to investigate the incident and establish the circumstances surrounding the building’s collapse.
