Residents of Aba, the commercial capital of Abia state, say Gov. Theodore Orji has fulfilled his promise of giving the roads a facelift before the rains sets in.
A visit to roads in the city such as Brass street, Geometric Access road Azikiwe, Milverton Avenue, and others in Ogbor Hill axis like Umuoba, Obikabia to Obingwa LGA headquarters, Aba “ Ikot Ekpene roads have all been rehabilitated while works on Ehere, and Ngwa were ongoing.
A cross section of residents who spoke to pointblanknews.com expressed gratitude to the governor for coming to the rescue of the city which was hit by a network of bad roads.
According to a tricycle operator who plies the Aba Main Park to Faulks road route, Mr. Ogbonna Eze, the rehabilitation of Milverton Avenue gave him a lot of relief because then ,it was like doing a double journey before getting to your destination due to the bad state of the Milverton Avenue.
Ogbonna called the governor’s attention to the bad spot at the Eziukwu road which he said had turned to a river and a sour point to motorists.
Mr. Thomas Igwe who operates a restaurant at the Milverton Avenue, Aba said the rehabilitation of the road has boosted his business. The rehabilitation of Milverton Avenue brought back life to my business. Because of the three bad spots which were on this road, my customers were no longer coming because their vehicles would get stuck in the mud. We suffered during the period. I thank the Gov. Orji for rehabilitating the road, he said
Speaking in a chat with newsmen in Aba, the gubernatorial candidate of the Mega Progressive Peoples Party (MPPP), Chief Edwin Okoro commended Gov.Orji for the rehabilitation works going on in areas like New Umuahia, Obikabia, Omoba and other roads in Aba.
I am really impressed. Let the governor take advantage of this dry season to do more roads. I am calling on Abians to support his government by paying their taxes and performing other civic obligations.
Okoro who is now a chieftain of the PDP called on Abians to come back home and invest in the state to create jobs for the residents.
Let Abians come and invest in the state and build the economy of the state. They can build tank farms, refineries, estates and industries, which will help employ Abians and boost the economy as the governor cannot do it alone, he stated.
Another chieftain, Chief Goodluck Njoku said Aba now looks like a huge construction site with works going on at all corners. The governor has kept his promise of doing the roads in Aba. The Obikabia road to the Obingwa LGA headquarters at Mgboko has been completed. The Aba “ Ikot Ekpene, and Ehere roads are now wearing new looks. We have Azikiwe, Umuoba and Umuoba roads, Milverton Avenue among others. I score the governor high because he has continued to tackle the basic problems of Aba. Aba will regain its lost glory and I think this is Gov. Orji’s dream, he said.
He called on the residents of the city to support the governor’s efforts to clean up Aba by ensuring that they no longer drop refuse on drainages which will block the gutters and destroy the roads again.
Speaking on the rehabilitation of Ehere road in Ogbor Hill, a resident of the community, Chief Aaron Ahunanya commended the efforts of the state government stressing that efforts should be made to open up more access roads like Umuola, Ukaegbu , Azuka, Pepples and Ovom street leading to Emelogu roads to reduce pressure on the Aba —- Ikot Ekpene road as well as the Aba Waterside bridge which as continued to witness auto accidents due to heavy traffic.
I commend the governor for his efforts; Ehere people are happy for the road. I know he will do more to open up these access roads so that traffic would be reduced on the Aba – Ikot Ekpene road.
This is the only way these rehabilitated roads will last longer, he said.
