The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects following a violent clash in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area, that has claimed seven lives.
The tragic incident, which involved operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps, reportedly began when the security outfit attempted to recover weapons allegedly seized by suspected hoodlums.
The confrontation quickly escalated into a deadly exchange, leaving seven people dead and several others injured.
Among the confirmed deceased are Ibrahim Oyebamiji (26), Sefiu Oyebamiji, and Abiola Olutayo, while the injured include Adeagbo Kadijat (22), Oke-Ila Oyebamiji (60), and Fayomi Toheeb (19).
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan disclosed that the three suspects were being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Osogbo.
He assured that a comprehensive investigation was underway to unravel the circumstances of the shooting and apprehend others linked to the attack.
“The Command is investigating all aspects of this case from claims of assault and impersonation to allegations of unlawful possession of firearms,” Gotan said.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the killings, describing the incident as “tragic and unacceptable.”
Through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor directed a full-scale probe and promised that justice would be served.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Jimi Bada, also extended condolences to the bereaved families, assuring that the state would ensure accountability and fair prosecution of anyone found culpable.
The traditional ruler of Akinlalu, Oba Oloyede Aborisade, joined community leaders in appealing for calm, urging government and security agencies to ensure justice and prevent further unrest.
The Akinlalu community remains tense as police continue their investigation into the deadly clash that has left families in mourning and raised questions about the conduct of local security operatives.
