PDP Chairman Urges Okorocha To Reinstate Council Chairmen

by Our Reporter

Sequel to the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Owerri Division reinstating the elected council chairmen and councilors of local governments in Imo State, the chairman of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) , Chief Eze Duruiheoma(SAN) has  tasked Gov. Rochas Okorocha to allow the council officials resume work.

Speaking to journalists yesterday, Duruiheoma said the party leadership would formally move to the state commissioner of police, Mr. Chris Dega to present a copy of the court judgment for his directive to allow the reinstated officials return to their duty post.

The chairman maintained that there was no indication except the word of mouth that an appeal has been filed by the state government against the judgment of the Court of Appeal, stressing that the affected officials should be allowed to serve till August 2013.

Recall that the court of Appeal, Owerri Division had on Thursday last week, reinstated the 27 council chairmen and their councilors who were sacked by Gov. Okorocha through a state broadcast on June 6, 2011.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that on the strength of the judgment, some of the reinstated have visited their council secretariats to liaise with the incumbent Chairmen of Transition Committees. Sources hint that security has been beefed up at the 27 council secretariats in Imo state to avert crisis which may erupt from the insistence of the reinstated chairmen to resume work.

The source further disclosed the case of the reinstated chairman of Ikeduru local government, Chief Sam Aka who was said to have gone to the secretariat with his supporters while his aide slumped and died as efforts to revive failed.
