The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Honourable Philip Olabode Aivoji, has described the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police as a clear testament to his distinguished service and purposeful leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
Aivoji, an alumnus of Lagos State University, made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Badagry on Wednesday. He said Disu’s elevation reflects his professionalism, hard work and longstanding commitment to national service.
According to him, the new police chief stands out as one of the finest officers produced by the force, noting that his intellectual depth, extensive operational experience and dedication to effective service delivery have earned him wide recognition.
The former Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Culture expressed confidence that Disu’s leadership would inject renewed vigour into policing across the country.
He stressed that effective policing remains central to national security and economic growth, adding that the new Inspector-General has the capacity to strengthen law enforcement and enhance public safety.
Aivoji also recalled Disu’s impactful leadership of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), where he recorded notable successes in tackling criminal networks and strengthening intelligence-driven operations.
While congratulating him, the former Chairman of Badagry Local Government advised the new police boss to sustain his focused, fair-minded and principled approach to crime fighting.
He urged him to continue upholding professionalism and work towards building a police force that would be the pride of the nation and comparable to the best policing institutions globally.
Aivoji further prayed for divine guidance for the new Inspector-General as he assumes the enormous responsibility of leading the force.
Olatunji Disu was recently confirmed as the substantive Inspector-General of Police following his appointment by Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the retirement of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
Disu, a seasoned police officer with decades of experience, has held several strategic positions within the Nigeria Police Force. He previously served as the head of the Intelligence Response Team and also held key operational roles including Commissioner of Police in various commands.
His appointment was subsequently ratified by the National Police Council, paving the way for the process of legislative confirmation.
The new IGP is widely regarded as an experienced crime fighter with a strong background in intelligence-led policing and operational coordination.
