by Our Reporter

Ahead of Saturday governorship election in Bayelsa State, the Nigeria Police has deployed about 9,000 personnel to strengthen security in the state to ensure a hitch-free election.

Equipment including Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) has been deployed to the state from other police commands and formations.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Asinim Butwat, who confirmed this to journalists, said other security agencies would also deployed men and equipment from neighbouring states to boost security ahead of the elections.

He said that the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, would address policemen deployed for the poll today at the Command Headquarters, Yenagoa.

According to him, the joint military operation deployed to the Niger Delta to secure oil installations would be on stand-by to assist the Police and other security agencies in providing security during the election.

He said the Police and Department of State Security would form the nucleus of the security architecture for the election, while Operation Pulo Shield would be on standby to provide back-up.
