The Enugu State Police Command has recorded a major success in its ongoing crackdown on illegal firearms and criminal activities with the discovery and dismantling of a local gun fabrication workshop in Udi Local Government Area.
According to a statement released Monday night by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad uncovered the workshop on June 30, 2025, acting on credible intelligence.
The operation was made possible following the arrest of one Ekene Okafor, a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, whose confession led police operatives to the hidden site.
“We recovered assorted firearms, cartridges, firearms repair tools, generator sets, and other exhibits from the scene,” Ndukwe revealed. “The recovered items include a locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun being serviced, two English-made double-barrel guns, eight single-barrel guns, two live and eight expended cartridges, three generator sets, various firearms repair tools, and other exhibits.”
Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the raid as a breakthrough in the Command’s intensified efforts to tackle illegal arms manufacturing and related crimes in the state.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our residents,” CP Giwa said. “We call on the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to continue providing credible information to the police.”
Superintendent of Police, Ndukwe added that the police are actively pursuing the fleeing owner of the illegal workshop, assuring that the Command’s operations against criminals are ongoing and yielding results.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police,” he said. “We are committed to making Enugu State a safe place for all residents.”
