Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reacted to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the late leader as the one who ordered the shooting of peaceful protesters during the #EndSARS protest at the Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos in 2020.
In a video shared on social media following Buhari’s passing on Sunday in London, the Zazu crooner expressed both sorrow and anger over the former president’s legacy.
“The man that said they should shoot our people at the Lekki Toll Gate is dead,” Portable said in the video.
Continuing , the singer said, “He was the one that ordered the shooting, not Tinubu. He died in London.”
Portable’s remarks revisit the dark memory of October 20, 2020, when soldiers allegedly opened fire on unarmed #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos. The incident, which drew widespread international condemnation, left several people dead. That ugly incident sparked national and global outrage.
Though the Nigerian Army initially denied involvement, it later confirmed before a corona inquest in Lagos that soldiers were deployed to the toll gate that night.
Despite multiple investigations and public outcry, no individual has been held accountable, and the case remains open- ended thereby fueling ongoing demands for justice and transparency.
