The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki (SAN), has declared that his administration is committed to “returning power to the people” through full restoration of internal democracy, while boldly predicting sweeping victories for the party in the South-West starting with the 2026 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.
Speaking to hundreds of jubilant party members and supporters at the PDP Secretariat in Abeokuta shortly after a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Turaki said the elder statesman’s counsel has further galvanised the party’s resolve to reclaim its “dominant political position.”
“Let me assure all our members and the good people of the South-West: We will win Ekiti, we will win Osun, and we are not stopping there. By the special grace of God and the unwavering support of our people, we will take over Ogun State,” Turaki declared to thunderous applause.
He attributed the PDP’s resurgence to “widespread grassroots mobilisation and renewed unity,” insisting Nigerians are “tired of the current trajectory” under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and ready to return to the PDP for “responsible governance, economic revival, and delivery of democratic dividends.”
Turaki thanked Chief Obasanjo for his “invaluable counsel,” describing the meeting as a major boost to the party’s strategic focus on reclaiming power across the region.
The PDP chairman reiterated his administration’s pledge to entrench internal democracy, ensuring members — not godfathers — determine critical party decisions. “We are returning power to you the people,” he emphasised, positioning the PDP as the “credible, formidable alternative” ahead of future elections.
The Abeokuta rally marks the latest in Turaki’s nationwide tour to rebuild party structures after years of internal crises that weakened the PDP’s hold on the South-West.
Turaki’s aggressive South-West push, backed by Obasanjo’s moral weight, could increase the presence of the party in the zone, where the APC currently holds four of six states.
