A 39-year-old pregnant woman, Esther Enemo, has been brutally murdered by her brother-in-law in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The incident occurred at Temidire Zone 4, Egbejila, on Wednesday night. Residents became suspicious on Thursday morning after a masked man, later identified as 29-year-old Sylvester Enemo, was seen leaving the victim’s residence.
Police operatives were alerted and later discovered Esther’s dismembered body in a bush behind her house. Additional body parts were found in a sack under a nearby bridge.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who is the younger brother of the victim’s husband. The remains have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a full investigation and assured that justice will be served. He also appealed for calm and urged residents to assist with useful information.
Recall that only recently, an Islamic cleric, popularly known as Alfa, was convicted by a High Court in Ilorin for killing and dismembering a female student of the Kwara State Polytechnic.
Beyond the growing threat of terrorist cells like the Mamudawa sect, ritual-related killings are increasingly becoming a disturbing trend in Kwara State. Security experts warn that unless law enforcement agencies act decisively, the menace could further take root in the society.
