President Aide Expresses FG’s Commitment To Improve Healthcare Sector

Dr Precious Gbeneol, the Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has expressed Federal Government’s commitment to improve the healthcare sector of the country.

Gbeneol gave the assurance in a statement signed by Mr Desmond Utomwe, her Media and Communication Consultant and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, MDGs in partnership with health sector had introduced a number of initiatives to deal with the “chronic shortage of skilled healthcare workers and inputs’’.

The president’s aide added that the focus of the initiative was in the rural areas to further improve better performance of government in the health sector at that level of governance.

“The gender parity targets at primary and secondary education levels have been achieved through continuous incentives which kept female children in school particularly in the Northern part of the country.’’

The statement said that the number of MDGs Projects had been executed and delivered to communities across the country.

According to the special assistant, MDGs cooperates with the states and local governments to accelerate progress of work in areas lagging behind in the development agenda.

“In 2011 alone, CGS recorded a number of successes such as building and renovation of 742 classroom blocks, the procurement of 1,214,271 million of textbooks and equipping of 1,646 health facilities.

“Construction of 4,478 water facilities, conditional cash transfers to 39,567 households, the payment of salaries of 2,260 new village health workers, among others,’’ she said.
