The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria today.
In a brief announcement on his official X handle, Onanuga shared, “President Bola Tinubu will return home today.”
Earlier, the presidency had stated that the President would come back after the Easter break. This followed concerns over his prolonged absence, particularly after renewed attacks by bandits in Plateau and Benue states.
Onanuga further explained that despite his absence, President Tinubu has remained in close contact with the situation in Nigeria and has been regularly consulting with his appointed officials back home.
Recall that the President left Nigeria for France on April 2, 2025, for a short working visit. During his two-week stay in Paris, President Tinubu held a significant meeting with Massad Boulos, the United States Department of State’s Senior Advisor for Africa.
Boulos highlighted the United States’ desire to enhance trade relations with Nigeria, which President Tinubu welcomed, particularly in light of the previous administration’s tariff policies under President Trump.
Another crucial topic discussed during the talks was the ongoing efforts to promote peace in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with an emphasis on multilateral cooperation and the involvement of regional stakeholders.
Following his Paris engagements, President Tinubu traveled to London over the weekend, where he continued his consultations and kept in touch with senior government officials in Abuja, the statement says.
