Residents of Maru community in Zamfara State on Thursday morning blocked major roads leading to Gusau, the state capital, and Sokoto in protest over a recent surge in bandit activities in the area.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that the protest followed a recent attack in which about 32 people, including the town’s chief imam and members of his family, were kidnapped.
Angry residents, mostly youths, barricaded the road, restricting vehicular movement on the ever-busy highway.
Although the protest reportedly lasted for about seven hours, troops of the Nigerian Army later restored normalcy.
Reports said the military assured residents of enhanced security measures in the area before reopening the road for travellers.
