Remove Imo Rec Now, ANPP Candidate Tasks Jega

by Our Reporter

The candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) for the Oguta state Constituency in Imo State, Barr. Frank Ugboma, has called on the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, to remove the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Celina Oko.

Ugboma said he and his party have no confidence in Prof. Oko conducting a free and fair election which has been slated to hold on August 11th, 2012.

The ANPP flag bearer further alleged that Prof. Oko has been biased and working with the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to ensure that the election is rigged in favour of the latter.

He stated that the REC scheduled a meeting a meeting of stakeholders on July 17, 2012, on Prof. Jega’s directive, but later cancelled the meeting without adducing any reason. “The body language of the REC point to the fact that she has been biased. The PDP candidate and others are complaining. She should be removed to avoid problems at the election,” Ugboma insisted.

Ugoma said he is preparing to go to court for an order of Mandamus should Prof. Jega decline to remove Prof. Oko as the Imo State REC.

He lamented that that the constituency has been without a representative since the state legislature was inaugurated last year.
