Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Health Institutions, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as part of their legislative oversight responsibilities to inspect progress on the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Teaching Hospital project.
Led by Hon. Patrick Umoh, the delegation lauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for his proactive gesture in designating one of the state’s specialist hospitals as a temporary facility to kick-start the teaching hospital’s operations.
While receiving the lawmakers at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, disclosed that the state government had already allocated land for the development of a permanent site for the hospital.
He assured the visiting lawmakers of his administration’s readiness to collaborate fully with the federal government to ensure the successful and timely realization of the project.
According to the governor, the oversight mission by the House Committee will play a vital role in enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the state. He stressed that the lawmakers’ findings would help in identifying and addressing the challenges confronting federal health institutions in Ondo State.
“This kind of legislative engagement will provide valuable insights that benefit both federal and state governments, as well as healthcare professionals and the good people of Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
In his remarks, Committee Chairman Hon. Patrick Umoh explained that the inspection was part of a nationwide tour aimed at assessing federal health facilities in line with their legislative duties.
He urged the governor to sustain his administration’s support for the FUTA Teaching Hospital to ensure it takes off smoothly and begins delivering quality health services.
Umoh described the project as a critical component of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda for the health sector, emphasizing that its success depends largely on collaboration with state governments like Ondo.
“We rely on your continued partnership and commitment to see this crucial initiative come to fruition. Your support will be key to advancing the federal government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide,” Umoh said.
