The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the ongoing recruitment exercise being Undertaken by the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and other agencies under the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Adopting a motion on notice by Rep Ismail Tijani, the House alleged that the recruitment exercise by the NSITF was lopsided and against the principles of Federal Character.
Moving the motion, Rep. Tijani disclosed that the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) is currently recruiting for positions at the management level and expressed concern
that only people from one particular part of the country are being recruited in the current exercise, which negates the principles of Federal Character.
He said the Minister of Labour and Productivity has been embroiled in a battle to control Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including the NSITF, and had been summoned by the National Assembly
for the alleged misdemeanor in 2016 and 2021 respectively.
He said the summon to the Minister in the past was based on allegations of employment irregularities, impunity, and anomalies
indicating gross abuse of office.
He said that the current recruitment process at the NSITF, is alleged to be biased and could negatively affect the promotion of hardworking staff of the organization.
He said “the Minister’s alleged reign of impunity across the ministries and agencies under his supervision has continued unabated despite engagements and interventions of the National assembly”.
He said the alleged undue favouritism in the ongoing recruitment exercise at the NSITF could prevent the country from deriving the maximum benefits from the MDAs.
The House therefore mandate it’s Committees on Federal Character; Labour, Employment and Productivity, Public Service and Disability Matters to investigate the recruitment exercise.
Deputy Speaker of the House, Rep. Ahmed Idris Wase said there have been several complaints about the recruitment in the NSITF with fresh graduates being offered Managerial positions.
He said from information available to him, the Minister of the Supervising Ministry of Labour and Employment is alleged to have been involved in the exercise with his son as one of the beneficiaries.
