Rivers Political Crisis: ACN Warns Against Unguarded Utterances

by Our Reporter

The Rivers State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) says the current political atmosphere in the state calls for caution.

The party was reacting to the rain of provocation languages, unguarded and inciting statements by certain politicians and government officials while commenting on the political developments in the state.

In a statement signed by the publicity secretary, Jerry Needam, the party took particular exception to the way and manner the state Information and Communications Commissioner, Mrs Ibim Semintari addresses the Rivers populace as though they are a people without commonsense.

The party acknowledged that that Mrs Semenitari is under pressure to redeem the rapidly dwindling fortunes of her boss, but urged her to go about the task in the most civilized manner without being insultive.

ACN demanded an unreserved apology from Mrs Seminitari for labeling responsible protesting youths of Obio/Akpor who lawfully besieged the State House of Assembly Complex to make case for the suspended council chairman and councilors; touts and miscreants.

The party wondered what made the Obio/Akpor protesting youths miscreants and a faction of the National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) who were earlier sponsored to a solidarity visit to Government House in favour of Gov Amaechi; missionaries.

“We have been following the current political happenings in the state with keen interest and wish to note that there is nothing in the entire saga that is new. While the PDP should enhance efforts to put its house in order, the gladiators and supporters of the divides should conduct themselves and must not carry on as though the entire state belongs to PDP or do anything that is capable of constituting danger to the innocent Rivers people. Rivers people are reasonable and responsible; not touts or miscreants. This wrong notion should be retracted forthwith,” the party demanded.
