In honour of his monumental achievements and legacies, the governor of
Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has renamed the RIVERS STATE POLYTECHNIC
in Bori as KEN ULE BEESON SAROWIWA POLYTECHNIC. The governor remarked
that the memories of avatars like the late Sarowiwa who fought selflessly
for the betterment of society and humanity should not be consigned to
oblivion.More so, he reasoned, when such personalities are revered beyond
the shores of the country.
Signposting the achievements of the late Sarowi wa-especially as the
former Sole Administrator of Bonny and the first commissioner for
education in Rivers State,
Gov.Wike recalled with nostalgia, the role of the late Sarowiwa in the
Niger Delta struggle that eventually consumed him. That, the governor
insists, is one monument that can never be obliterated. “This literary
giant must not be left unsong. He was a known and respected environmental
activist whose efforts exposed the marginalisation of the Niger Delta and
attracted international attention to the region.”Gov Wike concluded.
