The Senate will on Wednesday commence the screening of the newly appointed service chiefs nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This follows a letter transmitted to the upper chamber by President Tinubu, seeking legislative confirmation of the new military heads.
Reading the President’s letter during Tuesday’s plenary, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, directed all senators to prepare for the screening and possible confirmation of the nominees.
President Tinubu had on Friday announced a major shake-up in the leadership of the Armed Forces, saying the move was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture.
In the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, while Major-General Waidi Shaibu takes over as the new Chief of Army Staff.
Also appointed were Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, while Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye was retained as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
