Sokoto Govt. Buys N171m Equipment For Police

Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State said on Tuesday that the state government bought communications equipment worth N171 million to enable the police to tackle security challenges in the state.

Wamakko made this known in Sokoto at the inauguration of a police post built by the state Urban and Regional Planning Board.

He called for improved working relationships between the people and the police to confront security challenges.

The governor said that the construction of the post was timely to handle any security threat around the market where it is sited..

He said government would continue to support the police and other security agencies in the state for efficient discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

“The police can’t be everywhere at all the times but getting intelligence reports from the public would enable them to come out with concrete security measures to ensure peaceful coexistence.”

Earlier, Alhaji Gambo Shaiubu, Commissioner of Police in the state, reiterated the command’s determination to identify with the people towards ensuring effective police operations.

He said Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers had been directed to work with traditional rulers and stakeholders towards gathering intelligence reports.

Shaiubu commended the efforts of government in assisting the police to discharge their primary assignment.

“We will continue to adopt sensitive security methods that will enable residents to move on with their normal activities without let or hindrance,” he said. (NAN)
