Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Rural Development, said the state government bought 47 electricity transformers worth N127 million for distribution to communities.

Maigwandu told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Sokoto on Sunday that the figure excluded additional 11 transformers in government’s stock.

‘’ We also have 20 grounded transformers which were replaced in some communities and they will now be repaired by the ministry.

‘’ All these transformers, including the ones to be rehabilitated, will be given to the various communities across the state and we currently have 50 pending requests for such transformers,’’ Maigwandu , said.

The commissioner also said that Gov. Aliyu Wamakko had approved the sinking of five new solar-powered bore-holes worth N50 million in Shagari and Tureta local government areas.
He said four of such bore-holes were recently completed in Gwadabawa Local Government Area at the cost of N20 million.

‘’ The state government recently created the new ministry to further help in boosting rural development through the provision of the badly needed social amenities to the people,’’ the commissioner said.
