Sokoto to carry out verification of staff

by Our Reporter

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said his administration will carry out

verification to ascertain the true number of workers on public payroll at
the state and local government levels.

“In order to reposition the civil service, we will carry out full
verification to ascertain the number of workers we have at the state and
local government levels and to end the culture of truancy especially at
LGAs where workers go to work late and in some instances, they don’t go at
all,” Tambuwal said when he hosted Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel, National
President of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at
Government House, Sokoto.

According to him, the government will aim to achieve the objectives of
establishing the local government as third tier of government which was to
bring government closer to the people and ensure massive development at
the grassroots level.

He said the stated aims can only be achieved if the local governments
enjoy autonomy in sourcing for finances and in their expenditure.

“My position on local government autonomy is well-known. I am in full
support of it. Your union should intensify lobby especially at the
National Assembly to see to the realisation of the objective. As you do
that, know that in Sokoto you have a friend in struggle,” the Governor
added.

Earlier in his remarks, the NULGE President appealed to Tambuwal to
reconstruct the state Local Government Service Commission and ensure dues
meant to the union are released on time.

He commended Tambuwal for his efforts to revive the fortunes of local
government administrations in the state.
