Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has lampoon Peter Obi and other leaders associated with Nigeria’s opposition politics, branding them as politically homeless and accusing them of serial opportunism.
In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sowore derided Obi who was the Labour Party (LP) presidential flagbearer in the 2023 general election and his supporters as habitual political migrants, alleging that they have abandoned one platform for another in search of relevance.
Sowore wrote: “May political homelessness never be our portion. Nigeria’s most celebrated political drifters, led by @PeterObi, have once again packed their bags, moving from one homeless shelter @NgLabour to another, this time the Association of Desperate Conmen (ADC).”
He described the alleged shift as a predictable transition, adding that it represented a move “from confusion to delusion, from moral posturing to naked opportunism,” while claiming there was little ideological difference between the groups involved.
The outspoken activist further mocked what he suggested was a similarity between Nigeria’s major political tendencies, stating: “Different logos. Same scam,” and insisting that such actions would still be defended by those involved.
Sowore also took a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging ideological closeness between Obi’s camp and the party, which he sarcastically referred to as the “Association of Present Criminals.”
The comment has since sparked reactions across social media, reopening debates about political ideology, party loyalty and the state of opposition politics in Nigeria following the 2023 elections.
Sowore, a long-time critic of both the ruling party and mainstream opposition figures, has consistently positioned himself as an outsider to Nigeria’s dominant political blocs, often accusing established politicians of lacking genuine ideological commitment.
