Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso has offered a positive update on the fitness of star forward Kylian Mbappe, expressing optimism that the French international will return in time for the club’s crucial next match at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Mbappe was recently hospitalized after suffering from acute gastroenteritis, which forced him to miss Real Madrid’s opening group-stage fixture against Al Hilal. The illness raised concerns among fans and pundits alike, especially with the demanding Club World Cup schedule. However, speaking during a press conference on Sunday, Alonso shared encouraging news.
“He’s doing better, he’s back from the hospital and is recovering,” Alonso said. “We’re optimistic about having him against Salzburg.”
After being discharged from the hospital, Mbappe rejoined Real Madrid’s training camp in Florida where he has already resumed light training sessions under close medical supervision. His progress has fueled hope that he will be fit enough to participate in Madrid’s final group-stage match against RB Salzburg scheduled for Thursday, June 26.
Mbappe’s absence has been palpable as Real Madrid was held to a 1-1 draw by Al- Hilal in their opening match.
The team also had to proceed without him in their second group match against Mexican side Pachuca. With Madrid needing a win against Salzburg to secure their spot in the knockout stage, Mbappe’s return could prove decisive.
The 26-year-old forward has been a key figure for Real Madrid since joining the Spanish giants, scoring 43 goals in his debut season.
His potential return comes as a significant boost to Alonso’s squad. The squad is aiming to add another global title to their very rich history of title harvest.
Real Madrid fans worldwide will be eagerly watching Mbappe’s condition over the next few days, as his return could play a critical role in determining the club’s fate at the 2025 Club World Cup.
