The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria has lashed out at the Lagos PDP for its mischievous attempt to link the Kuramo beach surge to the Eko Atlantic City. The party said that what remains of Lagos PDP has become a pitiable bunch of mischief traders who sees every issue as object of mischief with the hope it would wake a dead horse that is the Lagos PDP through such acts of puerile blackmail.
In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe, the party says it is laughable and awkward that the PDP, which has led a historical rule of rogues and vermin in Nigeria is seeking for base means of sabotaging such a gigantic and ambitious project as the Eko Atlantic City based on its greedy instincts and selfish tendencies.
“We take it that Lagos PDP is far gone in mischief or it is on its well known antics of conning Nigerians for sympathy when it blamed the ocean surge on the laudable Eko Atlantic City, which is generating worldwide attention. We suspect that because PDP is permanently fixed on seeing public fund as free fund for looting, it reads intent to loot into any worthwhile project to lift Nigeria from the morass it has sank in into. We feel that PDP’s greedy inclination which sees every opportunity as fat cow to be milked by greedy party men is leading it into reading such negative meanings into great projects that promise to lift Nigeria from the quagmire it had sank the country into. Nigerians know that a party that has plundered tens of trillions of Naira in thirteen years worsening our poverty crisis and running a looters’ heaven can never ever see the big picture when one comes across. PDP will never see the huge potentials of Eko Atlantic City when it is consumed in the deadly foraging for immediate fonts of cash to loot and it is obvious that the Lagos wing of the PDP salivates about Lagos for the promise it offers in meeting its huge appetite for free fund and nothing more.
“For us, the Eko Atlantic City can never be the cause of an age old, universal problem like ocean surge, which incidence in Lagos has been reduced to the barest minimum by the proactive actions of the ACN government in Lagos. We challenge the Lagos PDP to tell Nigerians if the Atlantic Ocean suddenly started surging with the Eko Atlantic City. Can the Lagos PDP tell Nigerians when last we experienced an ocean surge vis-à-vis the period the Eko Atlantic City came into existence? We want them to grow up for once and tell Lagosians the history of ocean surges in Lagos and in other parts of the world instead of embarking on a fruitless cut-and-paste, attention seeking mission of provoking mischief for their narrow and selfish interests.
“We are not surprised that a party that cannot patch Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and all other federal roads in Lagos in thirteen years of disastrous governance, is now trying to find mischievous comfort in making wild, ludicrous and laughable allegations with every natural issue that confronts Lagos. We take it that a party that has worsened the living conditions of Nigerians in thirteen sordid years of ultra corrupt and rudderless governance, a party that presides over the worst forms of mass extortions where prices of nearly every commodity has been hiked out of the reach of the common Nigerian, for the sole purpose of feeding the gluttonous appetite of PDP party leaders, sees a laudable ambition such as the Eko Atlantic City as an additional milk cow. We are not surprised that it has conceived of the country as one borderless milk cow that appeases its tendency to loot and plunder. This is what is provoking its nauseating and ridiculous reasoning that Eko Atlantic City is a fat cow for some people to milk. It is disgusting that a party that sees itself as the leading opposition in a Lagos that has become a beacon of progress in the sinking ship PDP has converted Nigeria into, is trading such reckless, illogical and specious allegations in the face of the “Lagosians know that gone are the days when the ocean constitutes a constant big threat to big business and residency in the Bar Beach, the Lagos waterfront and the entire Lagos Island. But this is a problem we all grew up to meet and which bested many governments at the state and federal levels before the coming of the ACN government in Lagos. Today, Lagosians are not living on the constant threat of a massive ocean surge that will sink Victoria Island and Ikoyi, as we used to fear.
This was not as a result of augury or sitting down and praying while there is work to be done. It was as a result of hard work and deliberate action of the Lagos State government that ocean surges in Lagos have been reduced to the barest minimum. We however recognize the fact that all over the world, oceans overflow and when such happens, it amounts to the worst form of lazy thinking to believe that a laudable project that would, on completion, create 150,000 jobs is responsible for such natural incidents.
“For the avoidance of doubts, the Eko Atlantic City is a world acclaimed project that has attracted foreign and local interests in a country where the ruling party waits for the next tranche of trillions of oil money to steal while the country decays. It is a result of deep, proactive thinking in line with global strategies for economic growth and we say with all level of certainty that the economic benefits of the city are enormous. The city, which is being developed by reputable international developers and in strict compliance with international Environmental Impact Assessment and with full compliance with global standards and regulations, offers great economic prospects to Lagos and Nigeria, in line with similar such ambitious projects in all parts of the world. Part of the project is the construction of a seven kilometer wall tagged “The Great Wall of Lagos” to permanently protect Lagos from ocean surge. This is a project, which Lagos PDP sees in its prebendal views, its acute ignorance and its greed-induced myopia, as causing the Lagos ocean surge.
“It is a pity that a prodigal party like the PDP lives in perpetual prayer for natural incidents in Lagos, where it hopes to anchor its rudderless hope of adding Lagos to its large vassal territory. It is absurd that a party that has consigned the federal roads to impassable death traps is praying for the next rains with the hope that it will offer it some anchors for its hopeless politics of playing puerile games with the afflictions of Lagosians.
“We wonder what the PDP wants to prove to Lagosians or Nigerians who are victims of its megalomaniac governance for thirteen awful years when it lies in wait for any natural incident to raise outlandish and reckless allegations that fly in the face of reason. We suspect that Lagos PDP is wishing and praying that Lagosians remain in the dark on the rise in global warming that has occasioned monumental rise in global water level and is causing worldwide flood and ocean surge concern. It is obvious that the PDP, which loots trillions of Naira doing nothing is traditionally shirking from solving these problems that are widespread all over the country, we however promise that Lagos ACN and its government will remain eternally responsible for solving the problems that beset Lagos. Irrespective of the antics of the PDP. For a party that has come to be an insignia for misgovernance, public stealing, impunity and irresponsibility to now seek to make mischievous capital of the overflow of the ocean amounts to playing cheeky games and trickery on the intelligence of Nigerians that have borne the brunt of PDP’s roguery for thirteen sordid years.
“We want the PDP to continue to cover its head in shame at the abysmal failure it has made with governance in the federal as well as the states it controls instead of attempting to sow mischief in a Lagos that has become the driving force for Nigeria’s promise of recovery from the devastating wastage that is the PDP governance of the past thirteen years.”
