Tragedy struck in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Friday when a 100-level student of Taraba State University (TSU), Comfort Jimtop Oliver, was found dead in the residence of her boyfriend.
Oliver, who was studying Mass Communication and hailed from Takum Local Government Area, was discovered lifeless in the Bakasi area of Jalingo, sparking shock and grief within the university community.
While some speculate that her death may have resulted from a sex romp gone wrong, others insist it should be left for the police to unravel.
Questions linger as what may have also happened to the boyfriend, later found dead in Tudiri community far from his house. Will the bottles of alcohol discovered beside her bed provide a clue to what transpired? Investigation, many hope will reveal a lot.
The case has further stirred debate on the vulnerabilities of fresh undergraduates. Despite orientations and repeated warnings from their host institutions , always urging new intakes to focus on their studies and avoid risky relationships, many still explore their newfound freedom in ways that leave them vulnerable to exploitation and tragedy.
Unconfirmed reports allege that the boyfriend, identified as Emmanuel Kefas, may have taken his own life. Sources also claimed their brief relationship was troubled by violence.
Police authorities in the state have yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, the management of Taraba State University has commiserated with the family of the deceased and assured students that all efforts are being made to get to the root of the tragedy.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers young undergraduates, especially the female folks may face when they lose sight of caution.
As the police continue their investigation, many hope the truth will not only bring justice but also reinforce the urgent call for students to tread carefully, make wiser choices, and guard their future in the ivory towers.
