The cresidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to offer full scholarships to the Nigerian contingent which clinched the first position at the just concluded TeenEagle English Language competition in London.
Obi reckoned that such a gesture would not only attract young and brilliant Nigerians to embrace education but also inspire them to aim for a seat on a global stage.
He urged President Bola Tinubu to receive Nafisa and her teacher at the presidency as a symbol of the federal government’s commitment to education.
Recall that Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu, Rukayya Muhammad Fema, and Hadiza Kashim Kalli emerged world champions in English language communication skills and debate at the 2025 TeenEagle Global competition in London, United Kingdom earlier in the week.
The 17-year-old Nafisa was named the overall best in English language skills; 15-year-old Rukayya emerged as the overall best in debate, while Hadiza clinched the outstanding talent award (gold medal).
In his congratulatory message, Obi, in his X handle on Wednesday, warmly congratulated Miss Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, the exceptional 17-year-old student from Yobe State, on her outstanding achievement at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London.
“Her emergence,” he said, “as the top English language performer globally, outshining over 20,000 participants from 69 countries, is not only a personal triumph but a moment of great national pride. Nafisa’s brilliance, nurtured through discipline, family support, and quality education at Nigerian Tulip International College, has proven once again that Nigerian youths can excel on the world stage when given the opportunity.
“This remarkable feat calls for meaningful recognition. I strongly urge the Federal Government to honour Nafisa and all other students who recently brought academic honour to the country. A fully funded scholarship would not only reward her excellence but also inspire other students across the country to pursue education with passion and purpose.”
Obi described education as the most important tool that can develop any nation, and as such, must be treasured as a national value.
“Education remains the most powerful investment we can make in the future of our country. Let us, as a nation, demonstrate that academic excellence is a national value. I encourage the government to formally receive Nafisa and her teacher at the presidency as a symbol of our collective commitment to education. Recognising and supporting achievers like her is how we build a nation where merit is honoured and greatness is nurtured.”
