‎President Bola Tinubu has nominated Abdullahi Ramat as the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), alongside two new commissioners, in a strategic move to strengthen leadership in the nation’s power sector.
‎Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in Strategic Management.
‎His nomination, according to the presidency, is aimed at advancing the administration’s energy reform agenda and addressing regulatory challenges in the electricity sector.
‎In addition to Ramat, Tinubu also forwarded the names of Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner of Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner of Finance and Management Services.
‎“All nominations are subject to Senate confirmation,” the State House said in a statement issued on Thursday, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
‎However, to forestall a leadership vacuum at the Commission, the President has directed Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity, pending his screening by the Senate. This directive, the statement said, is in line with legal provisions.
‎The President charged the appointees to “use their knowledge and experience to discharge their functions and work assiduously to advance the administration’s power sector vision.”
