President Bola Tinubu has transmitted a ₦1.78 trillion budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the National Assembly, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure expansion, improved public services, and job creation in the nation’s capital.
The budget, titled the “FCT 2025 Statutory Appropriation Bill,” was formally transmitted to the National Assembly through a letter read on the floor of the House of Representatives by Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas during plenary on Tuesday.
In the letter, President Tinubu cited Section 299 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers him to present the annual appropriation for the FCT directly to the legislature.
The president explained that the proposed ₦1,783,823,708,309 budget seeks to consolidate ongoing infrastructure projects, enhance governance efficiency, and boost economic activities across the territory.
“This budget will enable further investments in health and social welfare, support increased agricultural output, and promote job creation across the FCT,” the president stated.
According to Tinubu, 85 percent of the proposed expenditure is dedicated to the completion of ongoing projects, while the remaining 15 percent is allocated to new initiatives aimed at further developing the capital.
“This proposal reflects our unwavering commitment to continuity and sustainable urban growth,” he said, urging lawmakers to prioritize the budget’s passage. “The National Assembly should treat this budget with the urgency it deserves in order to accelerate development efforts in the FCT.”
If passed, the proposal will represent one of the largest budgetary allocations in the FCT’s history, demonstrating a renewed federal focus on upgrading urban infrastructure, improving essential services, and unlocking economic opportunities for Abuja residents.
President Tinubu added that the robust allocation aligns with the government’s broader goals of modernizing key sectors, including transportation, healthcare, housing, and environmental management, to meet the growing needs of the territory’s population.
The President urged the National Assembly to give this budget the urgent attention it deserves, in the interest of accelerating development within FCT.
