Tonye Cole, a prominent Nigerian businessman and political figure, has expressed concerns about the viability of the presidential system of government in Nigeria.  He suggests that the current system may not be suitable for the country’s diverse and complex political landscape.
Cole’s viewpoint aligns with the opinions of several Nigerian leaders and analysts who advocate for a reevaluation of the nation’s governance structure.
For instance, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, has argued that the presidential system is no longer effective for Nigeria and has called for the adoption of a homegrown parliamentary system  .
Critics of the presidential system highlight issues such as excessive centralization of power, high costs of governance, and the potential for authoritarianism.
They suggest that a parliamentary system, which emphasizes collective decision-making and accountability, might be more appropriate for Nigeria’s federal structure and diverse society  .
While the debate continues, the call for constitutional reform reflects a broader desire among Nigerians to create a governance system that better serves the nation’s needs and promotes stability and development.
