… As Onwuliri Becomes president of global women network.
The Senate President, Senator David Mark, has expressed worries at the ill treatment meted to Nigerians in Zimbabwe, urging the President Mugabe led government to improve on their hospitality to Nigerians and other foreigners residing in their country.
Mark who stated this while playing host to the Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Thokozani Khupe in Abuja, stressed that recent reports show that Nigerians consistently face humiliation in their daily activities, either with the immigration and other security agencies in Zimbabwe and appealed that such action should be addressed in order to strengthen the already existing bilateral relationship between the two countries.
He further reminded the government and people of Zimbabwe of the need to accommodate other nationals just as he craved for true democracy that is representative of the people in the country.
Senator Mark assured his guest of Nigeria’s support to enthroned true democratic practice in Zimbabwe, saying, “Nigeria will contribute towards ensuring that true democracy reign in Zimbabwe.”
The Senate President, while commenting on the purpose of the visit, implored women in Africa to rise to the occasion, admonishing; “women should stand for leadership positions and live up to their billings . As I always say, once you empower a woman, you have empowered the whole community.”
He pointed out the Federal Government’s compliance to the 35% affirmative action adding that the encouragement of such action will further create a level playing ground for every gender in realizing the governmental objectives.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Thokozani Khupe said her visit was to intimate the President of the Senate of the establishment of a Global Power Women network, a body to champion the cause of women across African continent.
She stressed that the organization will look at the plights of women in our society and collectively fashion out plans at combating the menace.
Mrs. Thokozani khupe called for the support of leaders in Africa toward the initiative in the fight against maternal mortality, HIV/AIDs, rape and all forms of social vices militating against women in our society.
She however unveiled Nigeria’s Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Professor Viola Onwuliri as the new President of the Global Power Women Network adding that the maiden conference of the association will hold in Abuja , Nigeria, in May, 2013.
Mrs. Khupe is the pioneer president of the Global Power Women Network. She hands over to Nigeria’s Professor Onwuliri.
