The Ondo state government on Sunday announced that former United States
of America ambassador to Nigeria, Walter Carrington will deliver a lecture
in the state capital as part of activities marking its 40th anniversary
and the seventh anniversary of the present administration in the state.
The Chairman of the anniversary Planning Committee, who is also the
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in the state, Akin Adaramola
disclosed this during a press conference in Akure, Ondo state capital,
even as he mentioned that the lecture is billed to hold on Thursday,
February 25.
He hinted that the topic of the lecture may be on Federalism as a system
of government.
Giving more details about the celebration, Adaramola said no fewer than
26 special projects will be inaugurated adding that the double
celebration will be done on a low- key pedestal because of the prevailing
socio- economic situation of the country.
The Chairman said the celebration will kick off with a Special Broadcast
by the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko on the February 3, 2016 while
the governor and member of his administration will travel across the three
senatorial districts to commission and inspects life changing projects.
Adaramola said the broadcast is to reconnect and bond the people of the
state, with a display of photo exhibition to rekindle the nostalgic
experience of the past as it links with the present both for elders,
adults and the younger generation.
He said the photo exhibition will also tell the story of the strides,
leadership successions, trajectory of development, political emancipation,
Socio- economic transformation among others
He said ” Ondo state as a people, has over the years gone through thick
and thin with moments of ups and down, twists and turns, moment of grieves
and joy, low ebbs as well as periods of victory and triumphs in the course
of the journey towards achieving our collective dream and fulfillment.
“We have today attained a sure footing on account of the efforts of our
heroes past:; shared determination and resolute commitment of the crop of
leadership in Ondo state, not only to make our today better than our
yesterday but deliberately establishing an enduring legacy for a
sustainable future, hence, the essence of putting on record this landmark
turning point of a double celebration. ”
Created by the then Head of state, Muritala Muhammed from the old
western state on February 3, 1976, Ondo state has witnessed 15 different
governors at the helms of affairs with the incumbent as the 16th governor
of the state.
