Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel have called on Nigerians to rally behind the national team as they prepare for two crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.
Iwobi, one of the most experienced members of the squad, urged fans to keep faith with the Eagles as they aim to secure their place in next year’s tournament. He said the players are determined to deliver and need the support of millions of Nigerians to push them through.
“The mood in camp is good, everyone feels optimistic and excited ahead of our first game against Rwanda. As players we believe, and if Nigerians can continue to believe in us and give us the energy we need, we will achieve our goal of reaching the World Cup,” Iwobi said.
Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina echoed the appeal, admitting that the task ahead will be difficult but insisting that the squad is ready to rise to the challenge. He stressed that unity between the team and the fans would be crucial in the days ahead.
“We know it’s a tough task, but we are ready. The boys are looking forward to the games, so Nigerians should keep believing and supporting us,” Aina said.
Bright Osayi-Samuel also weighed in, describing the upcoming fixtures as some of the most important for the national team. He expressed confidence in the quality of the squad and the leadership of coach Eric Chelle, while urging Nigerians not to relent in their support.
Captain William Troost-Ekong has equally rallied fans to turn out in large numbers in Uyo and keep the players in their prayers as they chase qualification.
The Super Eagles face Rwanda on Saturday, September 6, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo before heading to Bloemfontein three days later for a decisive clash with South Africa.
Nigeria currently sits fourth in Group C with seven points, behind Rwanda on eight and leaders South Africa on 13. Victory in both fixtures would boost the Eagles’ tally and keep their World Cup hope alive.
With all 23 invited players now in camp, including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze, the squad is fully focused on the challenge ahead. Training sessions in Uyo have been described as upbeat, with players showing strong commitment to the task.
For the players, the message is clear: while they are ready to fight on the pitch, the backing of Nigerians at home and in the stands could make the decisive difference in their push for qualification.
