We Need Synergy In The South-South – Wike

by Our Reporter

Governor Nyesom Wike has sued for synergy amongst the states in the
South-South region as a way of ensuring  development.

He broached  the idea  while playing host to members of the Delta state
House of Assembly, who were on retreat. The honourable members of the
Delta State Assembly  were led by the  Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monday Ikp to
Government House,  Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Governor Wike stressed that the synergy is crucial for the region to enjoy
the dividends of democracy.

The governor used the visit to reiterate the need to give independence to
the legislature, stressing that his administration will do everything to
make sure the three arms of government worked without interference.

In his words: “You do not need to pocket the legislature to think that you
are safe.  The judiciary and the legislature were not working before, but
today by the grace of God the judiciary and legislature are back”.

While dismissing the various propaganda promoted by the opposition against
his administration as mendacios, he said the government was not bothered
about any fear of its tenure, but is rather is more concerned with
delivering on its promise.

Governor Wike averted that:  “I can assure you that if you organize
elections 20 times here in the state, PDP will win”.

He therefore urged the legislators  to enjoy their stay in the state and
wished  them a fruitful retreat.

Earlier, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday
Ikpuya had congratulated the governor on his election victory, stating
that the choice of Rivers State for its retreat was planked on the status
of the state as the headquarters of the South-South.

Rt. Hon. Ikpuya said from their findings,  Governor Wike is the
indisputable  choice of the electorate.

He added that the retreat will afford them opportunity to understudy the
state’s legislative process and utilize it appropriately.

The same view was expressed by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of
Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibani Ikuinyi who accompanied the lawmakers. The
Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly emphasized that an interface
was necessary between Houses of Assembly in the region.

Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi further stressed that: “The retreat is a peer review
mechanism considering the catchment areas in the South-South.
