WHO consultant wants FG construct sea port in Badagry

A consultant, World Health Organisation (WHO), Prof. Kwame Padonu, has called on the Federal Government, to urgently construct a sea port at Badagry, Lagos State.
Padonu, who was also a former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Edo State, made the call on Wednesday while addressing a news conference in Lagos.
“We are aware of the intent of a private terminal company that is planning to build the long awaited port in Badagry and we want to say this is long over due.
“The first place ever for a ship to berth in Nigeria was Badagry and the port will be a plus for Lagos State, Nigeria and Africa at large, “ Padonu said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Padonu is also the founding Patron of a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Centre for Global Promotion of Ogu People (CGPOP) of Badagry.
Padonu said that Ogu was a nation with its citizens spread across all parts of the world, adding that they had thrived against all odds to attain national, international and global relevance.
He argued that Ogu people must not be left out in the dynamics of development, prosperity and progress, as it was obtained by people in other parts of the world.
“We want to plead with the Lagos and Federal Governments and other African countries to wake up in their responsibilities in the furtherance of the course of the Ogu people.
“We also want them not to delay further the approval or completion of developmental projects cited or programmes that are to be cited in Ogu communities under their jurisdictions, “ he said.
NAN further reports that the Ogu people, apart from Badagry in Nigeria, are also found in the major cities of the Ivory Coast, Republic of Benin and Togo. (NAN)
