Priscilla Ojo, daughter of popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, has broken her silence following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s recent interrogation of her mother over alleged currency abuse during her high-profile wedding ceremony.
In a statement shared via her social media handle, Priscilla expressed dismay over what she described as a deliberate attempt to taint her family’s joy.
Her words: “They couldn’t ruin my wedding, so they targeted my Mom,” she wrote, suggesting the EFCC action was a response to the widespread attention her luxury wedding attracted.
Priscilla tied the knot with Tanzanian singer Juma Jux in a glamorous ceremony held in Lagos on April 19, 2025, following traditional rites observed earlier in both Nigeria and Tanzania.
The wedding, which was attended by celebrities and other high profile dignitaries, featured moments where guests were seen spraying naira and foreign currency, a practice now considered a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
The EFCC summoned Iyabo Ojo for questioning on May 5, 2025, in connection with viral videos from the wedding showing currency spraying. The actress later confirmed the development, stating that she was interrogated, shown several clips, and made to write a statement.
“I wasn’t aware that spraying foreign currency was also against the law,” Iyabo said in a post, advising Nigerians to familiarize themselves with the regulations to avoid similar issues.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions online, with many sympathizing with the Ojo family while others criticized the enforcement of the law on social functions.
Despite the growing controversy, Priscilla and Juma Jux have refrained from making detailed comments on the investigation. However, Priscilla’s recent statement suggests the couple believes the situation is a deliberate attempt to overshadow their joyous occasion.
The EFCC is yet to confirm whether any charges will be filed following the interrogation.
