Yobe Procures N490m Drugs For Free Distribution To Hospitals

Yobe Government said it had spent N490 million on the provision of free drugs to pregnant women and children across the state in the last three years.

The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, announced this in Damaturu while inspecting newly acquired drugs for the programme.

He said that government spent N20 million monthly to procure drugs for pregnant women, children and accident victims.

Aliyu commended the procurement committee “for ensuring that genuine drugs were bought directly from the manufacturers.”

The deputy governor said the health sector was a major priority of the administration.

“Government has provided drugs for common ailments among children and pregnant women as well as materials for surgical operations.

“We have also mapped out strategies to check diversion and to ensure that the drugs gets to the end users.

“This is a baby of this administration that is so close to the heart of the governor, we will not allow any act of sabotage.”

Aliyu said government would collaborate with other donor agencies to develop and map out strategies for common areas of operation.
