African Diaspora for Good Governance condemns the Spate of Police Brutality in the United States and Calls for Justice for George Floyd and Other People of Color Killed by the Police in America and Around the World.

Newark, NJ – (Friday, June 5, 2020) – For centuries a system of racism, and inequality embedded in every sector of the American society has endured against black and brown people – in housing, healthcare, employment and especially in policing.

The recent cold-blooded murder of Mr. George Floyd by a terrorist in uniform along with three accomplices from the Minneapolis Police Department is a violent reminder and continuation of the systemic racism in police departments across the United States.

It is heartbreaking that a 911 call in the United States in too many cases amounts to a death sentence for people of African descent. This is not what America promises or aspires to be.

ADGG, a pro- African non-partisan organization demands a bi-partisan effort to end violent policing of minorities across the USA, protection of citizens of color, immigrants and vulnerable communities from targeting by violent policing tactics and policies.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the Floyd Family and the families of other black and brown people cut short by senseless police brutality in America and around the world.

The millions of people on the streets in recent days – young, old, children, white and black protesting against this horrific injustice in spite of COVID-19 is unprecedented and instructive.

We welcome the escalation of the charges for the suspect to 2nd Degree Murder and the arrest and charging of his accomplices by Attorney General Keith Ellison.

The American Criminal Justice System is on trial and the world is watching with trepidation.

African Diaspora for Good Governance demands a set of immediate actions including but not limited to local and national legislation, removal of special union protection for officers charged with racist violence, total overhaul of the use-of-force policies, provision of intentional diversity training and sustained and systemic rooting out of racist elements in the police force. White Supremacist sympathizers including members of such organizations must be rooted out of police forces across the nation.
