Nigeria’s President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who is currently hospitalized at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre,  Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia for “acute pericarditis,” has now developed complications which doctors have described as a “dwindling mental health condition,” raising further fears that the Nigerian President’s health is not in anywhere near improvement.

President Yar’Adua is suffering from “acute pericarditis,” a deadly ailment which results from Churg–Strauss syndrome. Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium, often with fluid accumulation. Pericarditis may be caused by many disorders such as infection, MI, trauma, tumors, and metabolic disorders.

The Nigerian President has refused to resign or officially hand over to Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan on health ground and reports indicate that Governance has grounded in the once reputed “giant of Africa,” as his state of health continues to remain a secret.

However, very reliable source at the hospital confirmed to Pointblanknews.com that since last week when President Yar’Adua began to communicate, his sentences have become incoherent and psychiatrist invited to evaluate the President’s mental health gave a damning conclusion that the Nigerian leader’s mental condition is failing.

According to a source, the Psychiatrics noted that signs and symptoms observed are persistent and bothersome and as such, a psychotherapist may be required to attend to the ailing President.

The source hinted Pointblanknews.com that the current state of health of the President is not known to anyone in Government in Nigeria because the Yar’Adua family and few members of its political family intends to keep it a top secret to enable President Yar’Adua remain as President.

“We have a serious situation in our hands now and we just hope and keep hoping that Mr. President get well. Doctors just confirmed that he is mentally unstable and you know what that means. We just hope we can manage this one,” a source very close to the family confided in Pointblanknews.com.

He continued, “You know this kind of situation is not announced to everyone so it has been deliberately kept from certain people so we can see how far the doctors can can go to keep the President better.”

The source could not confirm if the mental state of the President is as a result of several medications he has been administered at the hospital or a re-emergence of an alleged poor mental condition he had suffered during his youthful days.

A Nigerian weekly had in 2007 published an interview with one Malam Sani Maigemu where he claimed to have treated President Yar’Adua with for mental disorder with “concoction made from roots of plants, soap, and palm oil, and also applied chaining, flogging and beating on patients who proved either violent or stubborn in taking orders,” during the President’s youthful days. The interview was later republished by Saharareporters.com.

However, the source at the Saudi hospital insisted that because of the relapsing condition of President Yar’Adua’s health condition coupled with his new mental state, doctors are now beginning to consider an option of discharging the President for him to be taking to another hospital yet to be determined by the Yar’Adua family.

According to the source “the doctors have been trying and now they are considering giving up but her Excellency have been talking to them to still give him sometimes otherwise; we may have to wait for whatever Yuguda finds in London.”

Governor Issa Yuguda of Bauchi State and an in-law of the Yar’Adua’s who has been in the United States where his wife, Nafisat is schedule to have a baby, has now been asked to go to England to shop for a hospital where the President might have to be transferred to should the doctors at the Saudi Hospital decides to quit on the President.

Wife of the President, Hajia Turai Yar’Adua who was earlier reported to be making plans to return home according to the source, may have decided to stay behind to monitor the ailing President since she is about the only one who has immediate and direct access to President Yar’Adua.

No one except Mrs. Yar’Adua, her children and the Nigerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia are allowed to see the President.
