Former President Olusegun Obasanjo dumped the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu after allegedly collecting Five Hundred Thousand Dollars from the the Labour Party’s Peter Obi for the endorsement of his candidature.
Pointblanknews.com also learnt that the former president equally collected Two Hundred Thousand Dollars from Tinubu earlier for his endorsement but reneged after he struck a more lucrative deal with Peter Obi.
Before finally settling for Peter Obi, the three top contenders including Tinubu, Obi and the PDP flagbearer, Atiku Abubarkar had visited the former President seeking for his endorsement.
Pointblanknews.com reported that President Obasanjo endorsed Atiku for president in 2019 after he admitted that he has forgiven his former vice for some grievances he has against him while in office.
But shortly after the endorsement, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC had traced a huge sum in the bank account linked to the Obasanjo library allegedly deposited by one of Atiku’s sons. The EFCC established money laundry and had sued the President’s library including Atiku’s son.
A source told Pointblanknews.com that Atiku had hoped that the earlier arrangement with Obasanjo is still subsisting and therefore could not muster enough cash when he visited the former president for yet another endorsement.
According to the source, “Atiku could not do much hoping that Baba whom he has paid during the last outing will maintain the earlier arrangement but surprisingly, he collected $200k from Tinubu to give him an endorsement.”
“Obasanjo allegedly collected another $500k from Peter Obi, dumped Asiwaju, and quickly wrote a letter endorsing the former Anambra Governor for President.”
The source also said that Obasanjo has been unstable with his assurances and would rather go for the highest bidder.
“He abandoned Yar’Adua when he couldn’t have his way, he abandoned Goodluck Jonathan when he refused to give him N500million for his Obasanjo Library project. He fell out with Buhari who didn’t carry him along after emerging president in 2015. Now he is pitching his tent with Obi after collecting $500k, abandoning Tinubu whom he had promised an endorsement after collecting $200k.
“Obasanjo’s mood is determined by how much money on the table. He is ready sacrifice anyone for money. He is hardly moved by any patriotic zeal.”
