Imo Lawmaker, Okorocha’s Aide On War Path Over Community Government Council

by Our Reporter

A cold war is gradually brewing between the Government Liaison Officer (GLO) for Obibiezena community in Owerri North local government area of Imo state, Prof. Mannu Enyiegbulam and the member representing the area in the Imo state House of Assembly, Hon. Dan Ikpeazu over who is the authentic GLO for the community.

Enyiegbulam has accused the lawmaker of interference and causing disharmony in the community. According to the GLO, Ikpeazu has been conducting himself in a manner unbecoming of a representative of the people.

“Hon. Dan Ikpeazu has been going round claiming that he has removed me as the GLO and appointed one Ifeanyi Etoruom as replacement. I don’t know if he understood the implication of what he has been saying. He has been causing problems in the community,” he said.

The GLO further accused the lawmaker of not being a serious person, stressing that his so called replacement, Etoruom, is an Abuja based businessman.

He called on the lawmaker to make efforts to rehabilitate roads in the community rather seeking government appointments for his relatives.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that Ikpeazu’s efforts to replace Enyiegbulam have caused disaffection in the community as its annual Easter conference was disrupted.

Pointblanknews.com further gathered that the Imo state government has published the list people appointed GLOs with Prof. Enyiegbulam as the GLO for the Obibiezena community; but the lawmaker is said to have vowed to have none of it.

A cross section of indigenes of the community who spoke to Pointblanknews.com accused the lawmaker of being an agent of confusion in the community since he was elected.

“We wonder if Hon. Dan Ikpeazu is now the Commissioner for Community Government Council. He boasts of his powers on how he sacked Prof. Enyiegbulam and replaved him with his candidate. He dabbles into matters where he has no powers to do so. Let allow peace to reign in this community because we don’t want crisis. Prof. Enyiegbulam is our choice,” an indigene of the community who preferred anonymity told Pointblanknews.com.

To show the extent of their dissatisfaction with the activities of the lawmaker, the Amaeze Obibiezena community had in an open letter to Gov. Rochas Okorocha titled,”Insult and Interference in Obibiezena Autonomous Community Affairs by Hon. Dan Ikpeazu, member representing Owerri North at Imo House of Assembly”, signed by Duru Ezinna Levi and Jame Manufor , appealed to the governor to call the lawmaker to order to avert crisis in the community.

Efforts to the reaction of the lawmaker on the allegations did not yield fruit as he failed to take repeated calls to his mobile number.
