The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nasarawa State chapter, has called on the state government to reinstate the sacked staff of both the Nasarawa Express Transport Service and Nasarawa Newsday Newspaper.
The appeal is contained in a communiqué jointly signed by Messrs Asoloko Maku and Jacob Makama, the Chairman and Secretary, respectively and made available to newsmen in Lafia on Wednesday.
It urged the state government to take appropriate steps to reinstate the sacked staff, and to address the issues of promotion and annual increment for the civil servants.
The NLC said this is the only way to maintain the existing relationship between the state government and the union.
“The civil servants in the state are confronted with the problem of lack of implementation of promotion and annual increment on the salaries of civil servant in the state,” it said.
The NLC, however, commended the efforts of the state government for the implementation of the National Minimum Wage to civil servants in the state.
It also called on the state government to pay professional allowances to deserving civil servants in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the affected staff of the two state-owned agencies were recently laid off.
The workers have sent a petition on the issue to the State House of Assembly Committee on Public Complaints and Petition.
