Troops conducting counter insurgency operations in Kebbi State have reportedly killed no fewer than 80 armed bandits attempting to infiltrate the state from neighbouring Zamfara.
The operation, which took place in Ngaski Local Government Area, was part of intensified security efforts ordered by Governor Nasir Idris to secure border communities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, said the success stemmed from the strategic deployment of well-equipped troops along Kebbi’s borders with Sokoto, Zamfara, and Niger States.
“The operation in Ngaski was made possible through the deployment of troops as directed by Governor Idris, who had earlier sought additional military presence to tackle insecurity in the state,” Zuru said.
He explained that credible intelligence led to the ambush of a large group of bandits around Makurdi village, where troops engaged them in a fierce gun battle between Friday night and Saturday.
According to Abdulrahaman Usman, the State Director of Security, about 80 bandits were neutralised in the encounter, with several motorcycles seized and two abducted victims rescued.
The statement also highlighted the sustained collaboration between the Kebbi State Government and security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, which has resulted in significant operational gains. Governor Idris has reportedly provided extensive logistical support, including 100 Hilux vehicles and 5,000 motorcycles, to boost troop mobility and response capabilities.
Reacting to the development, the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Muhammad, commended the troops for their bravery and lauded Governor Idris’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The government’s proactive steps and the courage of our troops deserve commendation. Their sacrifices are saving our communities,” the Emir said.
