Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has called on President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Armed Forces to demonstrate the political will needed to eliminate terrorists responsible for killing citizens across the country.
He made the appeal on Tuesday while delivering the keynote address at the ongoing Law Week organized by the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Akure Branch, held at The DOME.
In his address, the outspoken lawyer expressed alarm over threats from U.S. President Donald Trump to strike Nigeria under the guise of combating terrorism. Fani-Kayode urged President Tinubu to take full responsibility in eradicating all terrorist elements in the country.
“The solution lies with our political leadership and military to summon the resolve to decisively eliminate Islamist terrorists and foreign militias. This is a responsibility that rests squarely on President Tinubu, and he must see it through,” he said.
Reviewing the rise of insurgency in Nigeria, Fani-Kayode noted: “Conflict has escalated under successive governments, with multiple militant groups pursuing different agendas. Reducing all their motives to anti-Christian sentiment is misleading. Every terrorist and their sponsors must be eliminated. Dialogue, negotiation, or rehabilitation is not an option. They must be crushed swiftly and decisively. Demons and vampires have no place in the land of the living.”
He further emphasized that attacks have affected both Christians and Muslims, describing the violence as a nationwide tragedy that requires urgent action.
Speaking at the event, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by State Attorney General Kayode Ajulo, SAN, commended the NBA Akure Branch for organizing a Law Week focused on the timely theme: “Nigeria: Quest for a Utilitarian Judiciary and Roles for Stakeholders.” He highlighted the crucial role of lawyers in shaping justice, guiding society, and promoting democracy.
In a highlight of the Law Week, former Senator Dr. Bode Olajumoke was honored as Patron of the NBA Akure Branch, while veteran journalist and Vanguard Newspapers publisher, Mr. Sam Amuka Pemu, popularly known as Uncle Sam, was recognized as Friend of the Bar.
Following the decorations, the NBA inaugurated a relaxation center donated and constructed by Senator Olajumoke, providing a facility for members to unwind and engage in professional activities.
