Former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki has called for a swift federal government’s intervention following a devastating terrorist assault on Eruku town in Kwara State demanding the safe return of those kidnapped Tuesday night as he urged for a robust long-term security plan to safeguard the community.
In a deeply felt statement, Saraki expressed profound grief over the bloodshed and disruption in what is usually a calm and peaceful part of the state.
“My heart is heavy for the victims and their families. We are praying for Allah’s healing, restoration, and strength during this difficult time,” he said. “What happened in Eruku is more than just violence it shattered the serenity of a town that has always been a symbol of unity and faith.”
He urged the Federal Government and top security agencies to act with urgency, calling for a coordinated operation to rescue the kidnapped worshippers and ensure they return home safely.
“This is a time for decisive action. The kidnapped must be rescued immediately, and those who carried out this atrocity must be held to account. It is our collective responsibility to protect our people,” he insisted.
Beyond the rescue, he pressed for enhanced security for Eruku, not just as a matter of local safety, but as a strategic national imperative.
“Kwara is not just a state, it is a gateway linking the North and South of Nigeria. Given our geographical importance, Eruku deserves special security arrangements so that such tragedies do not become an ugly norm,” he explained.
The former ended his appeal with a prayer for Nigeria’s peace and for divine strength in the face of attacks aimed at sowing terror:
“May Allah heal our land and help us defeat all those waging war against Nigeria,” she concluded.
On the evening of 18 November 2025, heavily armed gunmen stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the Oke Isegun area of Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants opened fire as worshippers were gathered for service. Three people were killed on the spot, while others including the pastor were abducted and forced into the surrounding bush.
The Kwara State Police confirmed that the attack happened around 6:00 p.m., with operatives and local vigilantes responding promptly. During the clash, one vigilante was also wounded, and two male victims were later found dead, one inside the church and another in nearby bushes.
Community leaders say Eruku has been under repeated bandit attacks in recent weeks, and residents have repeatedly appealed for help without seeing lasting solutions.
