Former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina was hospitalized on Tuesday after collapsing on a staircase outside his office, his aide confirmed.
“While trying to enter his office, he lost his balance, hit his head, and passed out,” said Emmanuel Nweke, Maina’s media assistant.
“He was immediately rushed to a hospital and is now under close medical observation.”
Maina, recently released from Kuje correctional facility, has continued to attract public attention amid renewed controversy over his public engagements.
A few weeks ago, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Garki Branch, appointed him as the branch’s patron, an honorary role that sparked widespread criticism. The NBA’s national leadership condemned the decision, describing it as “a mockery of the legal profession and a covert endorsement of corruption,” and demanded its reversal.
Maina rose to prominence following allegations of large-scale pension fraud during his public service career, which led to his prosecution and conviction by anti-graft agencies.
Nweke appealed to the public: “Please keep him in your prayers. We will provide updates on his condition as soon as more information becomes available.” He Said.
