Former presidential candidate and ex-Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has admitted uncertainty over securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the remarks on Thursday while speaking to political supporters amid ongoing coalition talks within the opposition, said there are no assurances regarding the party’s ticket, despite growing public expectations around his potential candidacy.
“I’ve been asked how certain I am that the ADC will give me the ticket. The truth is, I cannot be sure,” he said. “What matters most is our commitment to a shared cause.”
The former governor stressed that his focus goes beyond personal ambition, noting that the current political climate requires a collective effort driven by national interest.
According to him, the task before the opposition is to build a credible movement anchored on sacrifice, consistency and a genuine desire for change.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s situation, Obi expressed deep concern about the country’s trajectory and the consequences of abandoning reform efforts.
“I often ask myself how we got here and what could happen if we stop pushing for change,” he added.
Despite speculations about political pressure and internal disagreements within emerging alliances, Obi maintained that he remains resolute.
He said no form of intimidation has shaken his commitment to pursuing a better Nigeria.
Obi, however, acknowledged the fragile nature of political partnerships, warning that trust remains a major challenge in coalition politics.
“We can’t be completely certain that those we’re working with today won’t walk away tomorrow. That uncertainty is always there,” he stated.
